Ideas for South-facing wall please

During the last few days the weather here in North Devon, England, has turned decidedly autumnal:- wet and mild during the day with a nip-in-the-air after four o'clock.  Hedychiums, Cannas, Helianthemum, Salvias, Helianthus, Asters and Kniphofia are all blooming nicely, and the seed catalogues are starting to fall through the letterbox.  During the last couple of weeks we have been moving plants to fine-tune layouts for next year and, in the process we've been very busy filling up compost bins.

But we have quite a few gaps to fill on the 180' south-facing wall.  Previously we have tried a number of Clematis suitable for such a location with the same result; they have all suffered with the intense heat emanating from the wall when the sun does shine here.  We have recorded 110F near the wall this summer on several occasions.  At present the following are doing very well against the wall: Acacia baileyana purpurea, Bomarea caldesii, Clianthus puniceus, Rosa banksiae normalis, Colquhounia coccinea vestita, Salvia gauranitica 'Black & blue' and Stauntonia hexaphylla.  We are also training a Drimys winteri against the wall behind a group of Agapanthus as something of an experiment.  If anyone has some suggestions we would be most gratefull.

Also, Berberidopsis corallina has been rather lethargic but otherwise looks fine, but we are considering moving it to the west-facing wall.  We have heard this plant is slow to establish though.  What would you recommend?

Finally, the west wall, which faces the prevailing wind, has two white Wisteria, an Akebia quinata and a Clematis armandii 'Snowdrift'.  Does anyone have some suggestions to add some bold colour here?
