Hi,

I don't think I can help directly with the problem of deterring whatever
is digging up your garden, but I have suggestion that might help some
people, in some places, to /identify/ whatever is causing this kind of
damage.

What I have in mind is to obtain a "motion sensor", such as is used for
household security lights, and hook this up to a flash camera,
preferably one with auto wind-on (or the digital equivalent). If this
set-up could then be arranged to cover the likely "victims" and left
switched on overnight, there is a reasonable chance you would then get a
photo of the intruder actually at work ("The rat with the flour on it's
nose" as Moira always quotes!). Of course, you might just get a film's
worth of stray passing cats etc, or - depending on the circumstances and
location of your garden, you might have the camera stolen!
