This is a great idea...also, a light with a motion detector might scare away
the nocturnal guests by blinking on before they start to forage.

Speaking of unwelcome wildlife, we once had armadillos in our backyard when
we lived in Houston, Texas.  The dogs dug giant craters trying to get at
them...  those scars were still there a decade later when I went to sell the
house last fall.
