You can quickly determine whether the plant is Old or New World.  The first
will most likely be a basal rosette, and the second grow from a stem coming
out of the ground without basal foliage.  Not a hard and fast rule, but a
good start.

I appreciate keepiong records on provenance.  That info is as important as
the plant name with the author.
