Richard - Many thanks for info. At least that narrows down the possibilities
(working on the assumption that what I have is a 'real' - if out of date -
S. major and not just somebody's slip of the labelling pen). And of those
possibilities S. tomentosa and S. azurea might be the likeliest. It
certainly isn't S. patens!

I've taken the problem back to the donor, with the additon of your info.,
and he's going to try to remember where *he* got the plant from, hence how
the name, too, arrived. Well, that's what *ought* to happen. Whether it
does... Even so.

But many thanks for the help. If I come up with a definitive solution to my
little conundrum, I'll let you know.
