Re: Phytolacca dioica

now this sounds like something I would like to try in Mendocino with summer fog, ocean wind, sandy soil, mild winter temps.....can it be grown from seed? source?

It also does perfectly here in Minorca (Balearic Islands).

We have some huge trees exposed to the strong wind of this island
(specially in Winter period) but we never get temperatures below 0 º
C. Minimum ranges normally go between 5 - 10 º C.

It does fine in San Francisco. The only in-ground
specimen I've seen grows on the top of Telegraph Hill
in full fog and wind, planted on a masonry wall, its
small caudex oozing over picturesquely. It's somewhat
deciduous. I bet it would do well in open sandy soil
and would get big pretty fast with summer water and a
little heat. Surely some Southern Californians can
 chime in here...
