Thanks very much everyone, for your recommendations :-). I checked out the frostproof website, including the "Kut-N-Kill Multi-purpose Pruner" <laughing>.
It's interesting and helpful that several folks recommend Coronas as a low-cost alternative. A friend of mine has a pair that she's had for about 15 years and never even replaced the blade. Looking at them, you can see they've had a lot of use! I've borrowed them, and thought they were great -- still quite easy to cut with despite the ancient blade, and nicely shaped to fit my little hands. My friend finally decided this summer to break down and replace the blade, or possibly buy a new pair of clippers altogether. She went to our local garden store, where the clerk told her that Coronas are nowadays not nearly as well-made as they used to be, and that she didn't really recommend them. Anyone else have a take on this? I would buy a pair for myself if they're as nice as hers. Otherwise I might put a pair of Felcos on my holiday wish list :-).
I hadn't realized my local Home Depot might have inexpensive decent pruners -- if I bought those for my employees, would it make me a Scrooge?
