Re: leptospermum liversidgei vs baekea virgata

Title: leptospermum liversidgei vs baekea virgata
No, they are quite different. Lept. liversidgei has fine, ericoid leaves in spirally arranged fascicles, while 'Baeckea virgata' has broader leaves in opposite pairs in a more-or-less 2-rowed arrangement.

The classification of the plant known as 'Baeckea virgata' has moved on. Baeckea has been found to be an unnatural group and many of its species have been shunted off into other genera (mostly named long ago). The group that B. virgata belongs to is now under genus Babingtonia. But B. virgata is based on plants from New Caledonia and none of the Australian plants are now believed to belong to that species. The Australian plants best known under the name B. virgata is now called Babingtonia pluriflora. But there are also some named cultivars with finer leaves that are derived from other Australian species.

There is a comprehensive account of the whole group, with pictures, at http://farrer.riv.csu.edu.au/ASGAP/APOL24/dec01-2.html
