was test? now I.D.

Thanks to all who responded to my test.  I guess it's just been quiet around here :-).

Anyone up for a game of "name that plant"?  I just got this one at a local nursery yesterday.  It had lost its tag, but the nursery personnel insisted it was Salvia greggi.  Clearly that's not correct, or not quite correct.  It has much larger flowers than any greggi cultivar I've seen, and the flowers are fuchsia-pink and FUZZY.  The leaves are also much larger, about an inch in diameter, a shiny dark green, and non-fragrant.  Similar to Ribes vibunifolium, except less round and no fragrance.  Maybe like a citrus leaf?  If it is a hybrid of S. greggi, I would guess that it's got quite a lot of something else in it.  Anyone who wants a blurry cell-phone picture, let me know :).

As for fall plants, my garden is pretty quiet in the fall.  It's heavily weighted towards mid-winter and very-early-spring because that's when I feel color and green things are needed here in the rainy Northwest!  But some plants that bloom all summer are particularly beautiful in the yellow fall light: purple penstemons, white gaura, etc. and the Maximillan sunflowers (Helianthus maximillanus or something like that) are always a fun surprise in the second week of October, when we think the garden has pretty much petered out.

Susannah ~ came through loud & clear on this end.  Has been very snoozey on this group of late, though...perhaps we should start up an interesting topic?

How about , "Tell me about your favorite FALL (medit) performers in the garden?"
