How is the termite situation where you are? They will feed on biologically
inactive cellulose. I'd consider the distance to your foundation and the
amount appiled as factors. Carpenter ants love to build nests in fallen
pine trees.
In North Carolina, bark mulch, composed mostly of lignins, is much preferred
and breaks down more slowly. The humus from this source is excellent for
plants from middle to high elevation tropical plants like the new world
Salvias, since that is their main source of humus in the wild.
PS: Fire ants love termites as a food source.
