Re: Phillyrea angustifolia

Eric,

Phillyrea angustifolia is also called Phillyrea angustifolia
'Rosmarinifolia'. It is a low slightly spreading shrub with much thinner
leaves than those of the usual Phillyrea angustifolia. Quite interesting as
a ground-cover. I use it in contrast with grey foliage like Artemisia
'Powis Castle', Ballota cretica or Euphorbia pythuisa.

Brachyodium ramosum has a thin very dark green leaf. It must be growing on
the hills near where you live.

I hope we'll meet some day ! What about the flower show at Le Pradet near
Toulon, next march ? It's one of the best flower shows in the South of
France, very friendly and lots of good plants to find there.

  Olivier,
Don't know Phillyrea rosmarinifolia - is that a new name for P.
angustifolia? This last I *usually* find on acid. Lentisque I've seen as
an excellent hedge - in a nursery, where they were obviously unable to sell
it<g>.
<Brachypodium ramosum,>> I don't know either (not good at grasses), but I
wonder if it is the one I've tried - rather pale green, broad-leaved grass
often growing in clumps, but will give a good lawn when cut(??)
Will certainly think of you next time I manage to persuade someone to plant
a native hedge. Dont go away!
