Dear Piet,
I bought a Lotus berthelotti in England in April and took some cuttings from
the plant in June to give to a friend. These were about three inches long
and were small side shoots taken with a heel from some of the main
stems.Around 50% of them rooted successfully in a few weeks,in a mixture of
sand and peat-based compost, placed in small pot in a cool part of our
conservatory.I planted the original plant outside in July in a raised bed
against the southfacing conservatory wall.It has a spread of around three
ft. now and looks very impressive, but hasn't flowered.Another plant, kept in
a small pot in the conservatory, has been flowering for most of the summer.I
don't know how successful my attempts to root cuttings at this time of year
would be; I intend to lift the whole plant soon,as we are likely to have our
first frosts in the next few weeks.I should think that
spring would be a good time of year for you to try cuttings...the plant is
fairly common as a hanging basket plant in English nurseries now and would
appear generally to be increased by cuttings in spring.
I hope this helps.
