the active ingredient is indeed very effective at
stopping ants or any insects from proceeding further
Synthetic pyrethrums as a whole have this effect on insects
and are quite toxic to people. Being bound into the chalk
probably helps it to last a little longer as well as these pesticides
tend
to have a fairly short half-life (breakdown quickly) especially in
sunlight.
