Re: Lavender propagation

To Wayne Scott, Hi!

Now is a great time to start lavender from cuttings. Take 4" to 5"
cuttings. I like to pull a small "heel" from the main stem as I take the
cutting. I think this improves my chances of a fast root. Remove leaves
from lower half of the cutting and trim back soft and too long tips.
Insert cuttings in a damp sterile propagation mix firmly. I put 4 or 5
cuttings in a 3" plastic pot. Water in well and place out of the sun,
but in a place that is very light. You need not put lavender cuttings
into high humidity. You can mist them from time to time if you wish, but
watch and remove any fallen leaves etc.
At this time of year, rooting should take place in 4 to 6 weeks.
Are you starting a lavender farm? I hope so.
Regards, Jan Smithen
