I'm currently considering planting a eucryphia at the corner of my
porch. I'm attracted by its fastigiate, slender growth profile since
the location is fairly confined horizontally, its attractive white
flowers, and what sounds like neat and healthy looking
foliage.
Can anyone comment on the pros or cons of this choice? Is it prone
to disease or pests? Do they need really good drainage? Does
they look attractive when not in bloom? What
about the various species? I welcome any of your advice or comments.
e. x nymansensis apparently gets very tall, but otherwise looks very
attractive.
e. milliganii seems a more appropriate size but I can't tell if the
flowers are as showy and it seems to need fairly acid soil.
e. lucida is, I gather the famous Tasmanian "Leatherwood tree".
Heronswood Nursery has a pink cultivar "Pink Cloud". Are these
evergreen or decidous? How do they compare to e. nymansensis?
I know there are some Chilean eucryphias but haven't found much info.
about them.
thanks in advance for any feedback.
