I grew this at my other place Tim and it did very well in a
sun-scorched spot . However although growth was vigorous and there
was never any concern for the plant's hardiness, it refused to flower
even after the incredibly hot summers of 1989 and 1990, where
temperatures remained in the high 80's and low 90's for many months
and even the wispiest cloud, low on the horizon was so rare as warrant
comment. I moved shortly after that and decided that if summers like
that could not persuade it, nothing could so the plant was left.

I've used rock wool to excellent effect on many plants that are
difficult to root. Even Carpenteria californica which in the UK is
notoriously awkward, gives good results. I also use it as a base for
growing orchids and find most species thrive.
