"Ornamental Gingers--A Guide to Selection & Cultivation" is by Timothy Sean
Chapman (1995). The spiral-bound booklet is 50 pages in length and has six
pages of xerox-quality color photographs of some 45 species or forms of
Alpinia, Costus, Curcuma, Etlingera, Globba, Hedychium, Kaempferia, and a
few other genera including culinary forms. The booklet is organized in
dictionary style with entries on each genus and species with their
descriptions. The color pictures are grouped at the back of the book.
There is also a three-page index. It is in its second edition. There is
general information on growing, hybridizing, and propagating gingers and a
general introduction of their geographic distribution.
In addition to the Chapman book, there is good similar information on
gingers on the Web sites for Gainesville Tree Farm
(www.4view.com/adams_eden/); Stokes Tropicals (www.stokestropicals.com);
and Southern Perennials & Herbs (www.s-p-h.com).
