Vancouver Gardens

Cheryl Renshaw requested info on Vancouver's gardens for an upcoming trip. Cheryl, you lucky dog you... going to Vancouver this time of year is my favorite!!
Actually, I'm going around the 13th or 14th, if all goes well (unless Alaska
Air has another 6 day special to Alaska).

DEFINITELY go to the Van Dusen Botanical *&* the UBC Botanical Garden -- allow
a good 3 hours for UBC. Actually, the University itself is a garden -- & is
especially nurturing (for me, anyway) around the Museum, where I once spent the
better park of a day assisting with their Native basketry collection (many
were mislabeled). The wonderful volunteers at the Botanical Gardens (both of
them) can supply you with more gardens to go see (private & public), than you
will probably have time for...

I've also enjoyed the gardens that you pass by on the steam train called the
Royal Hudson, which takes an excursion from WEST Vancouver north toward Alaska
to a "quaint" village about 2 hrs away. Along this route you will also pass
you may have seen in THE X-FILES... There are a couple of little public
"spaces" next to railway stations that are very charming. You might also enjoy
the Gondola ride up to Grouse Mt. from West Vancouver ... The "very natural"
garden at the top on the lift is quite "beckoning"... Judging by the bears I
have seen the past few years while riding up there, I'm guessing that the
huckle berries must be pretty good!!

Have a great trip!!
