I live where from November through March it's zone 6 by night, zone 7 by
day, and the only durable snapdragon I've been able to find is the
lovely double "azalea"-flowered 'Madame Butterfly.' I've grown just about
everything I could find on the market, including several species, but only
'Madame Butterfly' has been able to tolerate my adobe clay soil, get
through the hot summer and overwinter, and on occasion even last into a
third year. And is fairly disease resistant. I do my own from T&M seed
because nurseries rarely offer the true variety in this area. A similar
plant called 'Madame' is sold around here, but definitely is not the same
as 'Madame Butterfly.'
