Redgum lerp psyllid and California Eucapyts

Recently, Bill Grant mentioned the situation of the new
invasion of the redgum lerp psyllid, an insect pest which
is defoliating Eucalypts in many areas of California. He
did some research and provided me with some information
about UC Berkeley program to introduce a biological
control for this pest. In today's SF Chronicle, there is
an article about what UC is doing - you can find it on the
web at:
http://www.sfchronicle.com/ - select 'Munching Lerp Psyllids'

UC Berkeley has introduced a variety of biological pest
predators over the years. Their program is very careful and
has had a good success rate. The currently have a selection
of wasp predators under observation now, seeling the species
that will feed exclusively on the lerp psyllids and not upset
any other ecologocal balance in the process. We are very
fortunate to have local scientists working on such appropriate
biological technology!
