I did some research on the web about the "odd" shoot that formed on my
blood orange. It is indeed a shoot from the Poncirus trifoliata
rootstock the blood orange is grafted onto (I also looked at the base
of the trunk and very low you can see a graft line). The description I
read is right, three lobed leaves, palmate, and the branches have long
strong spines on them (one of the spines is about two inches long).
Needless to say, i clipped the shoot off. I would bet that Poncirus
trifoliata would make a great barrier planting because of its spines :).
