I've seen photos online of an Hawaiian variety called "Variegated Ae Ae," and
can confirm that it is quite beautiful, being, in the main, white splashed
with two colors of green. It grows to 20 feet in height, with leaf blades 6
feet long or more, but burns badly in the sun and needs a semi-shady position
to look its best. Both of the nurseries that I was able to locate who listed
it indicated that it was currently out of stock and that they had back orders
and wouldn't know how long it would be before they could take new ones. It
is apparently difficult to propagate, producing few offsets. Also, it was
quite expensive at one of the nurseries I found ($75 US). If anyone locates
a better, cheaper, source, I'd be interested also. Thanks.
