I've not heard of Nashi pear either, but I do grow mango. I live
significantly south of Barry, I am in the San Diego area (USDA zone 10b/l1,
Sunset zone 23,24) and it is quite a bit warmer here. Mangos grow well
in Southern California -- some varieties do better than others. If you are
looking for general information on mangoes, take a look at www.crfg.org --
that's the website for California Rare Fruit Growers, a non-profit org that
started in California and has now spread across the country and perhaps
internationally. The website is FULL of information on common and uncommon
fruits (and veggies). I know that there is quite a bit of info on mangoes.
And there are also "experts" on different fruits to whom you can direct
questions. They may have nashi pear, I am sure they have info on other
pears. Is this a true pear or something else that is called a pear?
Good luck
