John - Many thanks for the attempt to ID me! It certainly does sound close - certainly closer than an USDA Zone 8b, which would suggest much hotter summers than, alas, we get. In the end, though, I'm inclined to agree with Moira, that the details of climate are so variable that they defeat just about any system - just as it sometimes feels that they defeat just about any gardener!
