Martha Stewart (hey! come back here!) had a segment on propagating
plants by root cuttings. Her website says root cuttings can be taken
from January through April, but her guest showed off a Papaver grown
from root cuttings taken last fall.
So, when *can* root cuttings be taken? And which plants lend
themselves to this procedure? Stokesia laevis roots will sprout very
easily; I ended up with dozens, just by cutting through the soil around
them with a shovel.
