I love this book and have found it a source of inspiration. After
reading it once I wanted to post a message about what a great book it
was, but you know how it is about 'getting around to it'. <g>

I managed to pick it up for $14.99 Canadian (so about $10 US) at a
discount book store so I really got a bargain. Since he is in a colder
zone than I am, I should be able to grow everything he talks about.
It is frustrating to see some lovely plant in a book and then find that
it is hardy to zone 7.
I especially liked his description of the stages of development that a
gardener goes through. I was in the first stage where I wanted to grow
everything--the 'collecting stage'--but thanks to his book I am
becoming more discriminating and trying to become a more 'artistic'
gardener through attractive colour combinations, larger groups of the
same plant, and repetition throughout the garden.
If I am ever in the Bruce Peninsula again, I shall certainly try to
visit Larkwhistle. The Bruce is a wonderful place for people who like
flowers. I've been there when many of the varieties of wild orchids are
in bloom.
