Interesting. I thought wood ash was used only to raise pH. A moot point
however, since the soil is neutral.

Great! I think I've seen alfalfa meal in the garden centres. But what is
"greensand?" I've never heard the term.

I don't think thats really necessary. I realize that home test kits aren't
very accurate. However, my husband is a chemist and familier with soil
testing. He's confident that the test is accurate enough for our purposes.
Also, the test just confirm my suspicions based on the symptoms.
