Janis,
I live 40km North of Paris, and if you want I can meet you to guide you
anywhere, just e-mail me privately and tell me when you plan to come,
because I'm so busy in spring, as all the gardeners. Myself, I plan to make
a hike tour in Czechoslovakia with the french alpine rock garden society.
There are so many gardens to visit in Paris that I can't write all the
names, but there is a small book edited by the Paris town office each year
(it's free) and you can get it in any town hall of the capital (there are 20
'arrondissements' in center Paris and 1 town hall per 'arrondissement').
In this booklet you 'll find that there are guided tours in english in
André-Citroën Park (a modern garden created by a famous landscaper Gilles
Clément with the use of grasses) , in Père-Lachaise cemetery (interesting
for historical point-of-view : graves of many wellknown artists) and in the
Bercy Park (new park with a rose garden, an orchard, a vegetable garden
etc...). But these tours are beginning in june till september.
You can have a visit too, in Bagatelle Park (Boulogne woodland) where there
is a very funny show about the garden gnomes (perhaps till end of june).
I think the garden Betty 's talking about is the Villandry Château in Loire
Valley with his very famous potager.
So, have a good fun and enjoy your visit to Chelsea flower show but prepare
yourself to struggle a lot with all the visitors. It's tremendous, you have
to queue everywhere to see something and the year I visited it, I went on
the first day which is reserved to the RHS members.
