<< Thanks for the tip. Right you are. I just checked and they are only open
on Wednesdays and Sundays from 2-5pm. Fortunately, during the Chelsea show
they have extended hours -- Monday to Friday, noon to 5.
However, that probably means it won't be peaceful and quiet like it was when
Betty visited.
Janis,
With some web searching you can find most of the information you need online.
The Chelsea Physic Garden is online with hours and directions. One day a
week they have tea in the garden and that is pleasant. If your husband wants
a change of pace you pass a fine military museum on the walk from the tube.
I would also suggest that you consult your hotel concierge or any travel
agency in London (saves time doing it here) for daytripping to places like
Sissinghurst. There are travel agencies in every block. Bus trips are
offered to all of these gardens from the London hotels. Wisley has a train
connection which is met by the Wisley bus at certain times. (Wisley is
online as part of the RHS site). Kew is a tube ride from anyplace in London.
You can get transportation maps at Heathrow. They are excellent. They are
also online.
The more information that you can take with you the better your time is spent
in England.
On Sundays there is a flower and plant market on Columbia Road, London. This
is a street market that is great fun. There are plant supply shops along the
street and hundreds of stalls in the street. They sell plants, bulbs,
supplies, everything.
You need to be prepared for sticker shock in the UK this year. I have made
several trips to London and the south of England. This year they have
INFLATION. If you qualify for age reduced tickets be sure to ask. They are
not offered unless asked for.
My spouse is no gardener but enjoys plotting routes and finding things. If
you are in England May, the garden is the thing!
