For any of you who venture to Portland, Oregon, don't miss these very unique
"gardens":
1. The Portland Japanese Gardens, which are known world-wide as a gorgeous,
traditional Japanese garden and considered by many to be the best formal
Japanese garden within the United States. They're open all year round and
are also host to several special events. 5-6 acres, I think.
2. The Portland Classical Chinese Garden, currently under construction-- I
think set to open in the summer of 2000. The garden is walled and will
occupy and entire city block space within Portland's Chinatown community.

3. The Hoyt Arboretum, 200 acres of natural plantings, including more than
700 varieties of trees and shrubs, both native and exotic.
4. Forest Park, the largest completely wild, forested park within the
boundaries of a United States city. Its 4800 acres are carpeted with
typical cascade forests and meadows, and laced with hundreds of miles of
trails for hiking, backpacking, bikes, and horses. Forest Park is inhabited
by all types of wildlife, including black bears!
