Round Up must be used several times on hard to control weeds. Also the timing
and concentrations effect the outcome.
Too often gardeners think a little more will kill quicker and better, but
with Round Up too much can damage the foliage and affect the translation of
the substance.
As a result the top dies and the roots remain alive.
Also Round Up cannot be sprayed on stressed or wilted plants and plants which
might be covered by a thin layer of dust or grime. Inorganic particles
supposedly can 'tie up" Round Up.
On perennial weeds it is best to spray when the plant is mature, so that the
chemical has a better chance of translocating to the roots. Also adding some
spreader sticker does help the chemical to penetrate some weeds with waxy
surfaces.
Is Round Up safe for the environment. I have heard pro and con. Some claim
that it destroys certain soil organisms.
I have controlled everything from poison ivy and nut grass with Round_Uphave
gotten good results. Wild onions are another story.
