Re: Dealing with people picking your flowers

I'd like to thank everyone for their advice about the flower-picking
situation. There are a lot of good ideas and comments, and although
not all are applicable to me, they might help out others (for example,
I never mentioned that the plants are in the front yard near the sidewalk,
so motion-activated sprinklers would upset a lot of pedestrians :)

I talked to another neighbor today who says that he's seen the kids next
door picking my flowers (and that he told them not to), but as he was telling
me this we both watched the seven year-old girl next door run across the
street, break off about a dozen tulips from an elderly retired woman's yard,
then run back to her house with them.

I think I'll try a two-prong approach. I'll talk to the children and
follow the advice that Marya posted [1]. I'll also mention it to the
parents so that they know what's going on.

Thanks again!

Chris

[1] "... if I left the flower on the stalk, it would live longer and I
could come over and smell it any time, and other people could too."

How come I can never think of things like this to say? :)
