Re: moving hellebore

Well, I've not moved any large plants, but Graham Birkin (UK breeder)
says that late summer; early fall is the best time to divide them
because they are starting to make root growth then; would imagine
that is the ideal time to move plants, too. Since he does spring
divisions as well, do not think moving your plants now will hurt them
if you get a good rootball. H. x hybridus makes a very extensive
root system that goes down quite a distance, so dig deep. The roots
are many and thick, not wiry. Well, that sentence may not convey what
I mean. Have a drawing of them in the first Hellebore article I
wrote a few years ago, if you want to see it.

Have your new spot ready so you can dig and plant immediately and
water them in well.
