* Forecasters at U.S. National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration
expect
El Nino conditions to develop and begin affecting North American
weather by
midsummer. Just how intense this year's El Nino will be is unknown.
2002's
El Nino will likely result in fewer Atlantic hurricanes, more winter
Nor'easters for the East Coast, a drier summer in the Southwest, drier
fall
and winter in the Northwest, a warmer fall and winter in the Great
Plains
and Midwest and a wetter winter for the Gulf Coast.
