Hi all,
After lots of stuff bloomed, last Sunday the temp went down to 20, but it has
all come back better than ever. The only thing that was hurt (I covered what I
could reach that was in bloom) was the stupid saucer magnolia. Every year it
blooms too early and turns into limp brown rags. But this year the freeze was
late and it had a good run before succumbing.
This week in our yard we had blooming: forsythia, yoshino cherry, beginning
dogwood (dogwood winter!), viburnums, lilac, quince bush, primroses, violets,
hellebores, golden poppies, beginning bleeding heart, pansies, and epimedium.
In addition, in the woods around Nashville are rue anemone, dutchman's
breeches, spring beauties, toothwort, delphinium, trout lilies, and bluebells.
The bloodroot has bloomed and gone.
When I lived on the mountain I had the double bloodroot and it lasted till I
moved away and the weeds overtook it. Light sandy soil in shade.
I have mowed the yard once and it needs it again!
