RE: Phormium and Heuchera 'Amber Waves'

Hello Marilyn, No I won't be going down for that weekend. Thanks for the info on Gossler, I will check into their catalog. I am however going to try to make it down for 3 days sometime in late August. I plan to visit friends and do some nursery hopping down there at Cistus and Joy Creek, and yours?

Yes I am close to Heronswood - a dangerous 10 minutes away. The only thing that saves me is it is by appointment only, but I hear that may be changing. There goes my life savings!

I know what you mean by the slow growth of Mondo, mondo. Last year I was given a plant from a woman that other's swear is more vigorous. I planted it with my other mondo's so we will see if this one grows better. It would be interesting to see if some plants within a species are more vigorous. The woman certainly seemed to have a lot to share with others.

Debra,
I got my original P. Apricot Queen from Gossler Farms Nursery in
Springfield OR. They are not online but do have an extensive paper catalog.
Mostly trees and shrubs. They grow 40-50 different Magnolias! (Their 2 acre
display garden in spring is enough to make me weep) You can order a catalog
@ 541-746-3922 or fax @ 541-744-7924.
Are you coming down for the Hardy Plant Society Study Weekend June 27,28 &
29 at Reed College? They will be selling plants during breaks in the
planned events that weekend.
I got P. Platt's Black from Heronswood. You must be close to Heronswood
since you are in Kitsap County. It is more dark purple than black. I like
it better than black Mondo grass which grows at an agonizingly slow speed
for me. I think it wants hotter weather (at least hotter nights) than we
have here in the PNW.
