RE: creepers

One note of caution, I understand that if the roots of the two plants are
interwoven, then the toxicity in Round up (or other systemics) can transfer
between plants.  My other killed a large willow tree this way (she only
wanted the poison ivy around it to die).

Hi Barb,

I've had luck with brush killer.  Not really a selective poison, but it
is the only thing I've found to work. I don't know if all brush killers
work the same way, but the one I use (Round Up) will only kill the
plants that have their foliage sprayed. It is one that neutralizes when
it comes in contact with soil so it won't migrate that way to other
plants. It is also one that you don't see overnight results. It can take
up to two weeks before you notice the effect.

Just reread your message and see it is in an established bed. Get out
some plastic and either cover the good plants or make a sort of
collar/shute/funnel to put around the Creeper. Then use a small spray
bottle and carefully spray.

I have fought Virginia Creeper, also. Pulling can work to a point, but
if you don't get all of the roots and underground runners, it will pop
up again. At least it has for me.
