You could try some of the Phlox carolina cultivars instead -- they're not
susceptible to powdery mildew, have glossier foliage, and flower just 
as nicely (actually a little earlier).  The most popular is 'Miss
Lingaard', also listed under Phlox maculata or Phlox paniculata.
