The publication of the "The Garden" is a Journal of the Royal
Horticultural Society. In Volume 121 Part6 dated Jun 1996, provides an
article of Foxtail Lilies to Brighten the Border, Tails of the Desert,

Planting the bare root:
In autumn, dig a shallow hole wide enough to contain the eremurus
without cramping the roots. Place the crown on a slight mound of sharp
grit. Cover the crown with soil and gently firm with the fingertips to
avoid damaging the shoot.
