Re: Best Way to Hardening of Plants??

One of the interesting things from the plant biology class I am taking:
Shade leaves have a different internal structure than those designed for
sun, even on the same plant. I think part of the hardening off process is
encouraging the plant to begin growing 'sun' leaves. I have forgotten the
units of measure, lumins maybe, but grow lights indoors are at about 5,000
max, whereas full noon sun hits as much as 90,000. So moving from the best
of conditions inside to full outdoor sun is a BIG change. The book suggests
that if a plant is moved from shade or indoors into full sun, eventually it
will shed the 'shade' leaves in favor of new leaves designed to be more
efficient in sun.
