Susan - Okay, I won't get too excited. The silver maple is a huge, old
tree with a very high canopy and it does allow grass to grow around it.
But I had decided that the most I could hope for here was some kind of
tough groundcover. The other maples in question are much smaller
(although not exactly small) but I can't make a satisfactory
identification of them. They are probably Norway maples (maybe Red?) I
have several tree books and take a few out from the library in an
attempt to positively identify them - but I wasn't able to convince
myself. I'm in Zone 6 in Massachusetts.
What is a "hard" maple? I've never seen that listed.
Thanks -
