Mary:
Daphne's are what we call a rather short- lived slow-growing shrub,
which do like moist well-drained fertial soil in sun to partial shade
areas. By short-lived I mean 8 to 15 years tops. They are prone to viruses
and do resent root disturbances. But I do agree they are beautiful low
shrubs to have if they do well where they are planted, they are worth the
effort.
