I had read daphnes were "tricky" when I was
first gardening, planted one anyway, and it gets
so huge I have to trim it each year. A lot of
this is probably due to location, and mine
grows against the garage, facing north. It gets
some east morning filtered light through a fir
tree (which is 25 feet away), and when the sun
swings around behind the garage it gets some
south sun.
The two requirements I remember reading
about is afternoon shade and dryish summers.
Mine gets some water in the summer, but is
also under the eves of the garage which are
deep, so its never overwet, even in the Pacific
Northwest. My plant is 7 years old and
thriving.
One of the best parts of course is the fragrance
(by the path to and from the house), but they
also make excellent cut flowers lasting a really
long time in a vase.
Enjoy!

Can someone tell me anything about a plant
called Daphne? How to grow
it? What kind of light, how much water, what
kind of soil? Anything at
all. Someone gave me one as a present.(I found
it on my back porch and
since it was on my birthday I figured it was a
present. No name on
it)Anything about Daphne would be helpful.
Thank you, Mary
