Mryna: Ideas for a new '99 bed
Hi Mryna,
I have quite a bit of alchemilla in a bed south of the house. That will
be an idea for some of the excess. I was thinking of digging it up and
moving some around. I might try the bleeding heart. I haven't had much
luck with it around the house. I was also thinking of the large crambe I
have east of the house. It would look better if it could expand a bit
more. I really want to put in some of the tougher old fashioned roses
and shrub roses with a few climbers on the fence. I thought I would
place several clematis that can thread thru the shrubs for later bloom.
At least those that can be cut to the ground and removed from the shrubs
the next spring. In fact, I have a number of perennials I can divide and
move. I just want to leave out some of the more rambunctious and floppy
growers out. Some I don't mind it spreading like anemone sylvestris,
alchemilla, dead nettle, archangel etc. It is usually easy to remove if
there is too much and isn't so tall as to interfere with others. On the
other hand anthemis is way too rampant. I've got it everwhere. I like it
but Elmer doesn't. He really hates the tall Gold Plate yarrow and can't
understand what I see in it.
You can grow lavendar down there? I don't even try. We can't rely on
any snow every year. I have a number of lilium around. Even an oriental
by the west side of the garage. I can't seem to get too many of them.
This year I need to get in some spring flowering bulbs. I'm starting a
new bed south of the house this year so it should be ready for planting
this fall.
Bye,
Ann
