Elshlotzia californica, can't see why anyone would want to bother
transplanting these. 100% germination record, very hardy growth. Why not
just sow direct into large pots if not for own use. In the garden these
self-seed wildly and the odd one proves frost hardy to minus 5. Sure the
snow trick would work fine, they don't need a cold spell, but guessing the
melting snow creates the heat for first possible germ.
Romneya coulteri, (californian tree poppy/matildja poppy) only germinates
with GA3, lousy transplantation problems, seed-heads tend to rot, dislikes
root disturbance ... maybe wait until the thing is totally pot-bound before
transplanting ?? Suggest trying root-cuttings instead. Good information at
... oops lost the link, but here the article header, try search for coastal
grower as found nothing on a search for romneya.
