Re: Andersen's Source List

There are several problems with using Andersen's as your primary locator.
Even though the library must have a wonderful collection of catalogs, they
include only a limited number of these, mostly mainstream. Some catalogs
are 4 years old at the time of inclusion. So in this highly volatile
business, when you contact the nursery, they no long carry the plant!
Andersen's make no attempt at Taxonomic correctness. Plant names are as
listed in the source catalog.

So if you are looking for something unusual:

1) It is probably carried only by a specialist nursery not included.
2) If it is listed, most likely under another name.
3) If you finally locate the plant in the book, the nursery no longer
stocks it.

If it's not unusual, your local nursery owner has better sources (usually
at a better price). I get catalogs from several of the better specialist
mailorder nurseries for the other things.

I have personally had better luck finding the plant on the Net. Save your
35 bucks and buy something that grows.

I buy the RHS Plantfinder every year or so and find it worth the price.
