Cant tell you just when the classification was changed (I am not a botanist)but
recollect that it is in excess of 5 yr.now..
Might you have a Logee cat.(there are others as well I.E.Glasshouse Works)or
American Horticultural Society Encyclopedia?All refer to the large more tropical
types as Brugmansia..
However there seems to be conflict-argument  regarding the lot as I do see some
sources still using Datura as a total blanket classification...So I'll leave it
to the experts to thrash it out.And yes your absolutely correct about them all
sharing their common alkaloids..Sorry about overlooking your Climate zone
info,quite complete.I suppose we should all do this to assist the list more
thoroughly.
Which climate do you prefer for growing Albuquerque or your current location?
I would love to know more about your efforts at crossing lines and your results.
