I put my Avery clear labels on a zinc plant marker called Type E - Rose Marker
that I purchase from Paw Paw Everlast Labels.  There is another company that
produces the same type of label, but I have been told that they leave some
kind of film on the zinc label and that the Avery clear label doesn't adhere
to it properly. 

I can't remember when I started using the Paw Paw labels, but I know that it
has been at least 15 years since I started labeling all of my plants and
probably more.  I have an old tree peony that still has it's label that was
made with a hand held punch type label machine.  

I have also used the Brother Label making machine, but the tape is really
expensive and it waste tape at the beginning and ending of each label.  

I did some labels for a lady in Wisconsin that was worried because her labels
would be covered by snow for most of the winter and she was worried that they
would lift.  So I told her to try putting some of my labels in water and then
freezing and thawing them.  I never heard back from her so I don't know what
she found out.  I personally have tried to recycle them with a razor blade and
a heat gun with no success.  Yes, I can get them off before they have been
exposed to the sun, but after they have been in the weather for just a few
days, forget it.

The only labels that I ever have to replace are those that the snow plow folks
trash along my driveway every winter, and of course, those plants that fail to
make a repeat appearance the next year and have to be replaced by something
else. 

We have a frost/freeze warning issued for tonight and there is no way that we
can cover all of our plants, so we will be running our sprinkler system during
the night and all of our neighbors will think that we have gone bonkers!
