What about some herbs? I have tansy, oregano and fennell that are
trying to take over my herb garden. Not to mention the apple mint that
I planted in a buried container, and it keeps escaping. And some
pennyroyal that is still in the pot; I'm afraid to put it in the
ground, because it already looks aggressive! The oregano or the
pennyroyal would be my picks for ground cover, because they stay lower
and spread out more than the others.
I find it interesting that everyone seems to find different plants
difficult to grow. I planted penstemon seeds (stratified them in the
refrigerator in a plastic container for several weeks) and I think they
all germinated. Have NEVER been able to sprout hellebores. And in a
planting bed, I have bletilla that have spread from 2 or 3 bulbs into a
colony of about 25, growing right next to some coral bells that are
about 3 inches high after 10 years in the ground, and have not bloomed
since the first year they were planted! My plan now is this: I'll keep
trying things until I figure out what will grow for me, and then I'll
plant more of them...
