I, too, have a Goutweed horror story to share. IT got into a bed with
other perennials and I would laboriously dig it out by hand as it was
easy to recognize the white and green leaves. Then three years ago, it
must have reverted (seeded?) to the green form and has gained the upper
hand--it looks alot like some other things in the same bed (emerging
white snakeroot). I will have to dig the desirables out in early spring
and bomb the bed with Round-up, then replant when safe, I guess. I am
not hopeful.
Another spreader is a type of sunflower which was here when we bought
the house--I don't know exactly what it is; it manages to grow (and
spread) and bloom very well in almost all shade under an oak canopy.
Grows about 4 feet tall, smallish 4 inch flowers at summer's end, and
shallow runners, so it is not hard to confine. Does anyone have any idea
what it is?
